Outrigger (OC): The Ideal Cross-Training for Dragon Boat

What is an Outrigger (OC)?

The outrigger (OC) is a long, narrow boat equipped with a lateral outrigger (AMA) that ensures stability. It comes in OC-1 (single seat) as well as multi-seat formats.
At the Olympic basin, we exclusively use OC-1s, allowing precise individual work and optimal technical development.

The paddles used have an angled, rounded blade. The paddling technique is very similar to that of the dragon boat, making it an exceptional tool for transferring and refining skills developed as a team. It is also entirely possible to use a dragon boat paddle in an OC.

Why practice OC?

Reserved for dedicated paddlers. Essential to perform.

The Outrigger program is mainly designed for club members competing in the community division (advanced intermediate level) as well as all members of our Sports program.

This is not a beginner product for the general public. The OC is a structured training tool created for paddlers who want to increase volume, work on their technique individually, and improve in a targeted manner.

If you have never practiced Outrigger, it is mandatory to attend the introductory course before subscribing (new rule effective since 2026). This training ensures safety, basic mastery, and proper use of the equipment.

In short: if you want to become a better dragon boat paddler, Outrigger is a strategic step.
